What is ISM PMI?
A 0–100 index built from companies' answers on new orders, output, employment and prices. Above 50 means activity is expanding; below 50, contracting.
Why does it move markets?
Coming out at the start of the month, ahead of official data, it works as an early indicator. Its prices component is read as an early inflation signal.
